What my Taxes Taught me... about business growth.

Taxes and business growth… what do they have in common? A lot more than you'd think!

Come join me on this short little video journey—I promise, it’s not as painful as tax season.

We’re talking about taxes today. Why? Because this past weekend, guess what I was doing? Yep—taxes. And while I was knee-deep in numbers, I had a realization: taxes and business growth have a lot in common.

Two Ways to Approach Taxes (and Business)

There are two ways to go about tax time:

  1. You sit down, feeling prepared, knowing everything is organized.

  2. You sit down and hit gaps, roadblocks, and missing data that make you question all your life choices.

And I’ll tell you—I’ve been in both places.

Back in my early real estate days, I sat down one year to do my taxes and realized... I had no mileage records for the entire year. Not a single one. 😱

So what did I do? I spent days reconstructing everything from client appointments, calendars, MLS searches and Google searches—piecing it all together like some kind of detective. It was awful.

And I never let that happen again.

After that, I put a simple system in place to track mileage as I went, so tax time was easy and stress-free.

The Lesson: Business Is the Same

If you're always playing catch-up, you are not in flow.

You end up scrambling for content ideas, struggling to keep up with clients, or feeling overwhelmed because things aren’t set up in a way that supports you.

So what’s the fix?

Do Exactly What I Did with Taxes: Set Up Simple, Consistent Systems

If you hate tax time (or any business admin work), the trick is to stop treating it like a last-minute emergency and start integrating small, repeatable steps into your daily routine.

✔ Track what matters so you’re not scrambling later

✔ Set up small, simple systems so you never feel overwhelmed

✔ Build habits that work for you instead of against you

It’s simple, but not always easy.

The best time to get organized isn’t tax season—it’s all year long. And the same goes for your business.

Thanks for recording - and I think your yoga clothes work nicely! I am organized but never feel as if it is enough. If I'm not tidy and organized I feel I can't function - so maybe I tip the other way. Regardless, I'm grateful for the flow and look forward to my 2024 tax appointment tomorrow! ox

Great that your are tidy and organized! I'm sure it is beneficial in many ways. Some you may never recognize until you get a bit sloppy.
